Preparing for a Workshop on Smartboards
By Paul McMahon on Feb 2, 2008 in Appropriate Hardware for Education, Ideas for Great Lessons
Well I have to do a workshop on smartboards next week which I am trying to tailor to make as beneficial for the school as possible. Part of this is linking to the great world of resources out on the internet. It is a bit hard to really pick what the staff will need as I am not in contact with them. Fortunately the internet makes it easy to be able to pull in some of the great resources used by other teachers. This is particularity true of Ben and Joan’s fabulous pdtogo site which is a great collection of lesson ideas introduced by the teachers themselves on the companion podcast. This has to be a starting point for a lot of educators wanting to make a start in this area.
A close second place would have to be given to Annette Lamb, who I do not know but she has put a fabulous set of resources online at Engaging Learners the Smartboard way. This looks to me to be a great collection of links for schools starting out with the Smartboard.
Another great and emerging site seems to be operated by a smartboard trainer, Jim Hollis. Jim’s site, http://www.teacherslovesmartboards.com/ uses blogs and forums to get teachers to share. Although at the time of writing, Jim was by far the most active sharer which is good as he appears to be somewhat of a guru.
Angie Bunday, who also hails from the US, has gathered her own collection together but, to help teachers more, she has divided her sites into one for elementary teachers and another for middle and senior school teachers.
This is in no way a comprehensive list, but it does provide a good starting point for teachers looking for resources to go the next step with the boards.
